Artificial grass is a common name for synthetic turf that is engineered to emulate natural grass. Artificial turf can imitate most common varieties of grass such as St. Augustine, Bermuda, Marathon, Kentucky Blue Grass, and others.
Artificial grass is also referred using names like fake grass, synthetic grass. Also note that astro turf used in play fields is a type of artificial grass.
Yes, artificial turf is kid and pet friendly. For people with allergy to pollen, artificial grass actually works better than natural grass as it lacks pollen.
The rumor comes from the installations using rubber infills, and running track rubber, which can have possible health issues. Another source is the use of recycled plastic material in manufacturing artificial grass. Recycled plastics can have toxic contaminants and coatings. Prettie Grass products have been manufactured from pure Polyethylene and Polypropylene which have never been recycled before. Both PE and PP are very stable and inert under the temperature of 140 centigrade degrees. Apart from the high density artificial grass needing no infills, Prettie Grass provide Eco-friendly high quality EPDM to be the infill.
Artificial grass has many benefits and the actual value for an individual would vary based on following factors: Convenient – Low maintenance with no watering / mowing / Fertilizers & Pesticides
Aesthetic –Looks great year-round with no worries about dreaded dead spots or weeds
Economical-No water costs and other expenses associated with lawn upkeep(fertilizers, sod etc.)
Healthy-Allergy/lead free
Pet & kid friendly –Softer surface to play on, easy to clean(no muddy paws or grass stains)
environmentally-friendly- water conservation, no fertilizers or pesticides
No. We use a proven, technologically advanced UV coating to ensure each blade of grass retains its colour for the life of the system. This coating is effective in all climates and is not affected by use.
Prettie Grass products with Chinese yarn come with a (limited) warranty of 6-8 years but most of our installs would last over 8 years. Prettie Grass products with imported tencate or mattex yarn come with a (limited) warranty of 8-10 years but most of our installs would last over 10 years.
Just like concrete, pavers and lawn furniture heats up with Sun light exposure, similarly artificial grass would also get hot during peak summer afternoon. But due to its composition, its anti-UV features will resist sunlight absorption, thus it will not heat as much as concrete or tiles and will also cool faster as soon as Sun diminishes in intensity.
No, the existing natural grass has to be removed and the surface needs to be prepared for installation of artificial grass.
Yes, it is. Just like it is possible to build your own shed, fix your computer and service your car. As long as you have the required knowledge, know what you are doing and will install it in a calm manner, you’ll be fine!
But remember: installing artificial grass requires craftsmanship.
Normally, artificial grass will stay in your garden for a period of at least 10 years. So it is important to install it properly. Please take the following into consideration:
• The subsurface needs to be as smooth as possible
Every bit of unevenness, even the tiniest little stone, can be seen or felt in your lawn and can’t be fixed afterwards.
• The subsurface needs to be stable
The grass will be laid on top of the substructure. If that substructure isn’t stable enough, the grass will move with the substructure.
• The subsurface needs to be permeable
The soil must be of such condition that water can be drained easily. If it isn’t, artificial grass might start to ‘float’ after heavy rainfall.
• The strips need to be well attached to each other
Seaming the strips together is a very precise job. You should take your time. It is difficult to fix any errors afterwards.
• The grass should always be cut at the bottom of the mat
This way, you won’t cut through any fibers. Also remember to keep a 2 mm space at the edges. When the temperature rises, the grass can start to shift. If the grass is too tight around the edges, it might crease.
The synthetic grass must be laid on a suitable base – often similar to a paving base. For natural soil grounds this can be a constructed or prepared base that allows drainage and which ensures the grass is laid flat and looks natural and great. For hard concrete like surfaces we recommended using the shock and drain pad to ensure safety, comfort and extended lifetime of the surface. The installed grass can be ‘in-filled’ with sand or sand and rubber for the most natural look and to secure the grass remains in place.
The back of artificial grass is perforated for vertical drainage and it can drain very easily. Please do not worry about the rain or other water because our products are water permeable.
Prettie Grass products are made from pure plastics so at the end of the expected life, it can be recycled.
In your lawn, natural grass is irrigated using sprinkler system unlike a drip system for plants. The sprinkler system due to its nature consumes (and wastes) lot of water. So for most households the sprinkler for natural grass would constitute a significant portion of the water bill for lawn maintenance.
Actual cost savings for a house would vary based on size of the lawn and percentage of area covered with natural grass.
Prettie Grass products are made of pure plastic polymer primarily Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP). All plastic polymers are non-biodegradable but are recyclable so all the cut pieces from installation and artificial grass at the end of its life can be recycled.
Another misconception is that most people think plastic are man-made product but all PE and PP are petroleum by-products thus it is natural outcome of our addiction to fossil fuel!
Thus no natural resources were destroyed with environmental consequences for manufacturing Prettie Grass’s products!
Yes. Our grass is based on the highest quality yarns of specifically designed and developed for landscape applications. The grass yarns have a natural soft touch, which ensures pleasant use, and have passed the most stringent safety and environment standards, including those for toys. In addition, all coatings, backings, glue, etc. that we use in the production process are also non-toxic.
There is nothing wrong with it and we respect your choices, we appreciate your passion for enjoying a wonderful gift from nature.
There are people who are passionate about riding horses for most folks who just need to commute, a car gets the job done more efficiently.
You can use water to rinse off dirt from the grass.
You may think synthetic grass is dangerous from the sports games of decades ago. It’s true the old generation fake grass surface was hard that it wasn’t friendly to muscles, joints and ligaments.
However, things have changed a lot after all these years. Synthetic grass manufacturers start to use advanced materials and machinery to produce the comfortable feel and touch. Here are why synthetic grass is safer than real grass:
1. Synthetic grass comes with infill, which provides cushioning for artificial grass. Every time you fall down on synthetic grass, you will not hurt your joints. Infill exists to add support.
2. Synthetic grass surface is absolutely flat, without any bumps or stones beneath the real grass. You can run or jump on it without any worries. 3. Synthetic grass doesn’t have problem of harsh chemicals like the weeding killers. It will bring peace of mind all the year round.
Sure. But remember: If your grass is of lesser quality, the fibers will lie flat and remain flat once you have removed the pool.
If you have grass of high quality, you can simply brush the fibers to get them standing upright again. However, you cannot do this endlessly. With intensive use the resilience of grass of the highest quality will also be affected.
That’s very simple. Once the fibers lie flat, because of the heavy load placed on them, you can simply brush the grass. Just use a regular broom to do so.You will see: the fibers were only flat temporarily, but will show themselves in their full glory; happily standing upright again. If there is a heavy load on the grass for several years, then the grass’ resilience is affected irreversibly. It will become more and more difficult to get the fibers standing upright again.
